Leopard Cat Rice is an environmentally friendly agricultural product promoted through the "River Basin Recovery" strategy. This approach, proposed by the founder of the eco-friendly tea brand Taiwan Blue Magpie Tea, HUANG Po-Chun, requires cultivating crops using pesticide-free and fertilizer-free methods. This allows the ecosystem of the river basin to recuperate, providing suitable habitats for wildlife. Additionally, participating farmers become stewards of the environment, revising cultivation methods to maintain a balance between the local economy and ecology. Taiwan Blue Magpie Tea has established several cooperative tea gardens in the Beishi River tributary area in Pinglin. Fifteen farmers have already joined this initiative, becoming active contributors to the environment in the river basin. To further promote coexistence between ecology and agriculture and extend the habitat for the leopard cat, we created the "Leopard Cat Rice" grown with pesticide-free and fertilizer-free practices, fully sourced from the Fongshuwo community, a small settlement that we name as the origin of Leopard Cat Rice. Collaborating with local farmers, the Hsinchu Branch of the Forest and Nature Conservation Agency, the Miaoli Nature Ecology Society, the Tse-Xin Organic Agriculture Foundation, and Taiwan Blue Magpie Tea, we aim to embed leopard cat conservation concepts with the community, revitalizing both ecology and the local economy. With increased understanding and participation, we believe that Leopard Cat Rice would continue its journey towards becoming an exemplary social enterprise, adopting the "River Basin Recovery" strategy to help more farmers make the transition and expand the leopard cat's habitat.
Our mission is to construct the upstream watershed of Fengshuwu as a pesticide-free basin, allowing the leopard cat to coexist harmoniously with rural communities in the watershed, making farmers the guardians of the environment by signing “River Basin Recovery” supply contracts, bringing people closer to nature.
