BlueMagpie Tea Social Enterprise Co. Ltd. and Contract Farming
BlueMagpie Tea Social Enterprise Co. Ltd. (BlueMagpie Tea) adopts three main business models: "consumer purchases, corporate contract farming/adoption, and agricultural experiences" to promote the Pinglin mountain area and the Miaoli/Taichung leopard cat habitats as a "pesticide-free ecological villages". Through cooperation with enterprises that support the ecological environment, we look for enterprises with a concept of "contributing to the environment and society" to adopt tea fields and farmland by acreage. This not only secures a stable foundation for the livelihoods of farmers but also provides corporate employees with the opportunity to participate in work holidays, sowing the seeds of concern for the environment.
After each year's tea harvest, adopting companies can directly turn the tea they receive into corporate gifts, allowing more partners to understand the company's brand philosophy and the value of BlueMagpie Tea. In addition, by way of employee participation in work holidays, a more diverse group of participants can spread forth the concept of building an ecological village.
The companies that have participated in the BlueMagpie Tea adoption campaign, since its establishment include Epson Taiwan, Transglobe Life, Avnet, Astellas Pharma, Citibank, SINBON Electronics, TiMOTION, Chen Meii Development Group, Global Education, Accton, DBS Bank, Chugai Pharma, Concord Advanced Technology, JS ADWAYS, and Taiwan International Ports Corporation, spanning a network of 64 companies. These companies support friendly farmland adoption with practical assistance, adopting a total of 15 tea fields and rice fields to help farmers cultivate in an environmentally friendly way without harmful pesticides and fertilizers and protecting water sources and homelands.
Why do companies need to participate in adoption?
To allow more people to enjoy pesticide-free tea, BlueMagpie Tea has cooperated with 64 companies and 24 farmers over the years to produce on contract, so that more farmers can stop using pesticides and help restore clean water and soil in upstream watershed areas. The ecological village concept is also promoted through the cooperation of agriculture and commerce.
We encourage companies to come together in support of environmental conservation. To achieve complete watershed recovery, the most important element is corporate support. Because of the enterprise's adoption, local farmers are guaranteed a stable income, and the influence of enterprises can be used to advance friendly environmental farming practices.
Of the 17 goals of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), BlueMagpie Tea addresses goals 8, 12, and 15, namely "employment and economic growth", "responsible consumption and production", and "land ecology". Especially regarding item 15 "land ecology", we completely deliver on the indicators of "conservation and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems" to achieve the task of watershed recovery and establish an ecological village that balances agricultural activity and conservation.
Employee work holidays
We have launched work holidays and even local volunteer activities in cooperation with local farmers, taking corporate employees on tours of Pinglin tea fields and Fengshuwo rice fields in person. Through the five senses, participants can totally experience the vitality of the tea fields and rice fields, step into the lives of farmers, and establish an emotional connection between the people and the land. They may also learn more about the local environment and conditions and understand the enterprise's contributions to the environment, building a sense of identification with the company among employees.
Many companies not only allow employees to participate in local activities but also invite employees to bring their families and children along to the farms. This not only increases parent-child interaction but also provides a good opportunity for food and agriculture education for the next generation.
Tea study tour
"Taiwan Blue Magpie Tea" and 15 tea farmers work together to grow tea in an environmentally friendly way, protecting and cherishing the land to preserve a habitat for all living things, creating an ecological village where all can coexist. Through such activities, corporate employees will also fully understand the growth, picking, and production of tea trees, tasting a variety of teas from the fragrant Wenshan Paochong tea, the honey-scented Oriental Beauty tea, to the fruity and mellow honey-scented black tea, to deeply understand the different characteristics and flavors of different tea products and learn about the vast body of well-made Taiwanese tea.
In September 2021, we released the "Catchment Area Recovery Corporate Sustainability Report" (please click on link).
We consider catchment area recovery as our core mission, and through ecological products such as Blue Magpie Tea and Leopard Cat Rice, we commit to creating a pesticide-free ecological village. BlueMagpie Tea has always stood by the principle of balancing nature, humanity, and economics, fulfilling BlueMagpie Tea’s commitment to sustainability and responding to the support of various stakeholders along the way, to let more people understand the philosophy of BlueMagpie Tea.
